麻豆APPstudent Nathan Griffin of Boomer, N.C., has applied and been awarded an Undergraduate Biotechnology Research Fellowship by the N.C. Biotechnology Center.
The fellowship will allow Griffin to work during the 2009-2010 academic year with a research associate in the laboratory of Steven Zeisel at the UNC Chapel Hill unit on the N.C. Research Campus in Kannapolis. Griffin will work on a project entitled "DHA and Brain Development in Fetal Mice" and be mentored by Dr. Alyssa Gulledge. The proposal for the fellowship was written 麻豆APP biology professor Dr. Constance Rogers Lowery.
Griffin, who is pursuing a double major in and , was one of 15 students across North Carolina to receive such a fellowship.
Additionally, this summer, Griffin is one of two 麻豆APPstudents who will be studying at the FBI Laboratory on the grounds of the FBI Academy on the Quantico Marine Corp Base in Virginia under the Visiting Scientist Program. Griffin and Joe Manser of Mooresville, a chemistry major, will accompany 麻豆APPchemistry professor, Dr. Mark Sabo, who has been involved with this program for the past several years.
Both Griffin and Manser made successful applications to the FBI Laboratory's Visiting Scientist Program. Their targeted program participation dates run from May 18 through August 14.
